S&T Bulgaria Improves Data Security for Mobiltel

With some 50.3% of the mobile market and 5.1 million customers, Mobiltel is the clear market leader in Bulgaria. The company was taken over in 2005 by the Austrian telecommunications group, Mobilkom/Telekom Austria.

The challenge

Mobiltel commissioned S&T Bulgaria to plan and install a professional, stateof-
the-art storage system, which would comply with the regulatory standards and satisfy higher domestic service level requirements. S&T Bulgaria had already worked for more than six years for Mobiltel, already in 2003 the first disaster recovery / business continuity project in Bulgaria for Mobiltel has been completed.

The project

The project, which was started at the beginning of 2007 and recently completed, encompassed the planning and installation of a multi-hop data recovery network, which was distributed over three sites. Two of the sites, where data replication is carried out synchronously, were located in Sofia: the third was located in more than 500 km away from Sofia and connected by a high-speed fiberglass cable. Through the use of powerful EMC² SRDF Data Mobility technology, storage replication takes place remotely using EMC² Symmetrixs DMX-3 storage architecture, which guarantees Mobiltel maximum flexibility and enormous scalability whilst at the same time offering maximum performance.

This solution guarantees the high availability of data as well as its seamless integration into other systems, such as SAP or Oracle.
